| Frequently asked questions: What is ralphworld? -- ralphworld is a site dedicated to enhancing communication between musicians, bands and people who need musical entertainment. We provide an easily searchable database of contacts so that people who want to get together can readily do so. Come on, your not still using the bulletin board at the music store are you? That's so last century. How does it work? -- Simple. Post your ad. We'll store it in our online database. Then, anyone who has a need for your unique talents will be able to search for you or people just like you. You can then correspond through email, swap phone numbers, mp3s, etc... until the day you become wildly rich and famous (or until you hook up and find a gig, whichever comes first). After a year, your ad is history. -NEW- How far from my zipcode does the search radius extend?-- The default search radius we use is 50 miles from your zipcode. Please note that this is an approximate distance (your mileage may vary). We are currently working on a redesign that will allow users to search by zipcode, area code, state/province, or country. -NEW- Why don't you list alternative (or acid house, thrash, ambient, grunge polka, ska, etc...) in your musical styles? -- When we were designing the site we had two alternatives; define as complete a list of musical styles as possible or use a small list with broader categories. We chose to go with the small list because we wanted users to be able to navigate the site quickly. Plus, we didn't want users to have to read through a long list to find their particular style. And really, if you think about it no list would ever be complete. There are tons of musical styles out there and new ones are created daily. Someone's style would always be left out. Continually adding new musical styles to the database would require too much work and after all, ralphworld is a labor of like not love. In short, I'm just not that hard working (at least not for free). How much does it cost? -- All services at this point are free. Musician and band contact information will always be free. We will eventually be introducing premium services on a subscription basis. |
